Brand Spotlight: Hip Hop Pop Up

Jessie Alegría, Founder of Hip Hop Pop Up

I first met Jessie Alegría when she was teaching a hip hop class out of an unassuming dance studio space in 2019. I had been asked to show up and shoot the class last minute, and figured it was right in my neighborhood, so why not. I was mesmerized within the first 10 minutes of class.

I come from a dance background - I danced for about 15 years and will always have a deep love and appreciation for it. Jessie’s passion for dance shot out of her like laser beams, zapping everyone in the packed class with explosive, fiery energy and the best positive vibes. I was stoked.

I have had the privilege of bringing my camera along wherever Jessie’s Hip Hop community pops up. The vibe is welcoming, inclusive, playful and just really damn fun. The group has danced in that first studio space in Back Bay, The Grand nightclub, Red Lantern and who knows where next, all I know is I will be there. Here are some of my favorite shots from the classes over the past couple years.
